Anna Mae (Dougherty) Maurer, 91, of 316 Williams Street, Slatington, died on Saint Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17 in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Frederick Franklin Maurer, Jr.
She was a legal secretary for Steckel & Stopp, and William Hudders. She was administrative secretary for Junior Colony, and for the Superintendent of Schools at Northern Lehigh School district until she retired at the age of 62.
Born in Slatington on Groundhog’s Day, she was the daughter of Michael Dougherty, and Alerta (Andreas) Dougherty.
She was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church of Slatington.
She was an avid traveler having visited Germany, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Morocco, as well as multiple trips to Hawaii and cruises in the Caribbean. She spent 7 winters as a snowbird in Myrtle Beach, SC.
An avid reader, she read thousands of books and eBooks during her retirement and solved countless crossword puzzles and cryptograms.
Survivors: Sons, James S., Charles B., and Michael T. of Slatington; brother, Thomas Dougherty of Reno; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 25, 2024, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church Parish Cemetery, 1152 Oak Rd, Walnutport. No Calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
