Burnell T. Wertman, Jr.

Burnell T. “Spundy/Nellie” Wertman, Jr., 69, of Slatington, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.   Born in Allentown on August 25, 1953, he was the son of late Burnell T. Wertman, Sr. and Joan E. (Horwath) Shellhammer and her fiancé John Dunn of Slatington.  Spundy served his country honorably and proudly as a member of the US Army.   He worked most recently for the former Twin Lakes Golf Club, on the grounds crew.   Prior to that, he worked for many years for the former NJ Zinc Co in Palmerton as a furnace operator.   He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 16, Slatington and the Slatington Skeet Club.
In addition to his mother, he will be lovingly remembered by siblings Linda and husband Robert Steinruck of Nesquehoning, Terry Ray Wertman and wife Beverly of Schnecksville, Jerry Wertman, and his late wife Debra of Slatington, Judy Eckhart and her late husband Paul of Walnutport, Michael Wertman and companion Steve Cardwell of CA; nieces & nephews: Ryan, Derek, Lindy, Brittney, Tyler.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Slatedale Cemetery, 8648 Brown St, Slatedale.  No calling hours.   Arrangement are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to American Legion Post 16, 510 Main St, Slatington 18080.
