Smith, Damion R., 30, of Slatington, passed away July 7, 2014 in his home. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Linette (Muthard) Leickel of Walnutport & Robert W. Smith & his wife Deborah of Slatington. Damion was a 2002 Northern Lehigh graduate and worked for Pencor in Palmerton in the Tech Support department. After serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, when he returned home in 2004, he saved 2 young boys from a burning car after coming upon an accident in Washington Township. He was awarded the military's Valley Forge Cross for Heroism, Slatington Citizen of the Year by the Slatington Lions Club and was also honored by the Slatington American Legion, Rotary Club and the Kiwanis International Foundation for his heroic efforts. Survivors: Parents; companion, Alicia Creyer; sisters, Brittany L. Smith & Brandi L. Smith, both of Slatington; stepbrother, Shawn R. Kline of Coopersburg; half brother, Andrew J. Schuler of Walnutport; niece, Kali; nephew, Ryker. Services: 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington. Calling 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home.
