Ernest W. Ernie Bauer, 85, of Slatington, passed away June 9, 2009, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, Salisbury Twp. He was the husband of Annette (Yehl) Bauer, they celebrated their 22nd anniversary this past June. Born in Slatedale, he was the son of the late William and Lilly (Scheffler) Bauer. Ernie worked as a parts manager for the former Rauch Chevrolet Garage in Slatington which is now known as Rentschlers, for over 30 years. He was a survivor of the Battle of teh Bulge during World War II before being honorably discharged. He was a member of St. Johns UCC, Slatington and the Slatington Masonic Lodge 440 F & AM. Survivors: Wife, sons, Ernest and wife Madaline; grandson, David Bauer of Westford, MA, Rev. Jeffrey and wife Jo; grandson, Michael Bauer of Macungie; extended family, Lori and husband Jed and their children Ashley and Brent Merkel of Slatington, Suzanne and husband Joe Sostak and her children Darren and Jordan Lorah of Schnecksville; sister, Elsie Oswald of Effort; nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by wife Marion C. (Beers) Bauer. Services: Memorial service Saturday, June 13, 2009, 11:00 a.m., St. Johns UCC, 15 S. Second St., Slatington. Family and friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements, Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington.
