Ernest J. Cunfer, 92, of Slatington passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Cedarbrook, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Roberta M. (Peet) Cunfer, who passed away in 2019. Born in Slatington on May 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Mary A. (Brobst) Cunfer. Ernest served his country honorably and proudly as a member of the US Army. For more than 45 years, he was employed for the former Trojan Powder Co., working as a forklift operator and general laborer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, Slatington, and lifetime member of both the Slatington Skeet Club and the Springside Fire Co. Ernest was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Kingsmen group. He was avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed “shooting the breeze”.
He is survived by children: Robert J. Cunfer and wife Cynthia of Slatington, Charles J. Cunfer of Slatington, Timothy J. Cunfer of Ashfield, Mary A. and husband Scott Stahler, and Ruth A. Cunfer, both of Palmerton, Ernest Galgon of Walnutport, Randy Galgon of Fl; Grandchildren: Cassandra, Nathan, Maddison, Jacob, Trace, Beau, Zack; Great-Grandchildren: Nicole, Jacob, Marigold, Lochlan, Orion; brothers: Edwin Cunfer of Newtown, Carl Cunfer of OH, Dean Cunfer and wife Dorothy of Slatington. Nieces & Nephews. He was pre-deceased by siblings Ralph and Arvilla Cunfer.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church 40 S. Second Street, Slatington. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11AM. Burial with military honors to follow at Dinkey Memorial, Ashfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
