Joan I. Richmond

Joan I. Richmond, of Slatington, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 15, 2023, one day after her 92nd birthday.     She was the wife of the late Donald L. Richmond, who passed away in 1994.   Born in Weissport, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth (Arner) Barry.    A dedicated stay-at-home mom until age 40, Joan worked briefly for several local mills.  She then was employed by Kmart in Walnutport, where she worked until retiring in 1993.   Joan was an active member of Faith Alive United Methodist Church, Palmerton.   

She will be lovingly remembered by children: Dawn L. Richmond, with whom she resided; Deborah A. and husband Terry Hausman of Danielsville, Denise L. and husband Bruce Kuntz of Slatington, JoAnn E. and husband Jack Bechtel of Slatington, Darryl B. Richmond of Northampton, Sylvia Richmond Paragin of Fairfield, OH; grandchildren: Bradley (Danielle) & Heather Hausman, Matthew, Adam & Scott (Grace) Bechtel, Amber (Patrick) Wanamaker; great-grandchildren: Hayden Wanamaker, Emily Hausman.    She was pre-deceased by siblings, Elizabeth Hallman, LaRue Harleman, Glen Barry.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Faith Alive United Methodist Church, 678 Pine Street, Palmerton, PA 18071.   Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11AM.   A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow in the church.   Interment will be private.    In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.   Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
