Kathleen Rose Peters, 86, formerly of Slatington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at The Palmerton, an assisted living residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald L. Peters, who passed away in 2006. Born in Berlinsville on July 18, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Lebish) Hobel. Kathy was a graduate of Northampton Area High School. After high school she attended art school in New York City where she went on to oil paint the portraits from their family business, The Donald Peters Photography Studio. She later worked as the head cook at Slatington Elementary School where her grandchildren were attending.
Kathleen was a creative and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She shared her love of music, books, art, games and sports with her family. Along with raising four children and working outside the home, Kathleen and her husband found the time to renovate nearly every space of their home on East Franklin St. Her house was truly a house filled with music and love, from the attic filled with toys and memories all the way to the stairway into the basement, where the walls were covered with signatures and drawings from everyone who had ever visited the house, from 1968 onward. Kathleen was even more prolific as a painter once her kids left home, for college and careers. She painted on anything she could get her hands on and loved gifting her work to everyone. Her treasured artwork is now shared in the homes of her family. Kathleen especially delighted in building memories for her grandchildren, both in visiting them in their own homes, no matter how far away, and also having them visit at her home.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Debra Peters Wilcox of Frederick, MD, Michael Peters and wife Monica of Slatington PA, Colleen and husband Philip Harris of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Dylan (Amanda), Alexandra (Jim), Megan (Nick), Jay (Hannah), Mitchell (Sutton), Skylar (Nick), Kyla (Stephen), Andrew (Emma), Olivia (Ryan), Jacob; Great-grandchildren: Madelyn, James, Quinn, Hudson, Jude, Eleanor, Ursula; her sisters: Dorothea Lukman, Rosalie and husband Stanford McFarland, Frances and husband Thomas Erschen, Bernadette and husband Herb Loerbs. Kathy was predeceased by her son, Dennis Peters, and his wife, Judith Machon Peters.
