Kermit W. Waylen, 86, of Slatington, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, in his home. Born in Palmerton on May 18, 1938, he was the son of the late Willard and Eva (Furry) Waylen. Kermit was a graduate of Northampton Area High School. He then went onto to serve his country honorably in the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Shangri-La and the USS Lexington. Following his discharge, he worked for PP&L for many years and retired as a foreman. An outdoorsman, Kermit was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing in both Florida and New York. He loved all Philadelphia sports teams and could always be found cheering on all Northern Lehigh sports teams.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sons: Brian L. Waylen and wife Heidi of Slatington, Blaine W. Waylen and wife Debbie of Coplay, Keith S. Waylen and wife Tricia of Slatington; nephew whom he treated like a son: Mel Hein; step-children: Stephanie and husband Gary Rankin of Slatington, Joe Suto and wife Tammy of Palmerton; grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Brittney, Jared, Dale, Dustin, Slade, Carter, Joey & Josh; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters: Myrtle Weaver of Bowmanstown, Eleanor Meckes of Slatington, Elaine Kirchner of Walnutport; former wives: Charlotte Waylen, Margie Babyak, and many nieces & nephews.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
