Richard Edwin Achey Jr. 79, of Lehighton passed away January 8, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Richard Edwin Achey Sr. and Anna Helen (Yentsch) Achey. Following high school graduation in 1960 he enlisted in the Navy for 4 years. He spent 35 years working for the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company. His entire life he has been an avid hunter and fisherman, his mother said he often would not come home from school until after dark because he was always out in nature. He was known to many as the “fishing guy” and spent most of his free time going to auctions, buying antique items to use, collect, or donate.
He is survived by son Andrew and wife Rebecca and his grandchildren Mikayla and Braden of New Tripoli; His daughter Kelli-Jo and her husband Ozzy of San Antonio, Texas; His significant other Joyce Platz and the Carson family and the Schnaubelt family. His brother Thomas and companion Gloria of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his younger brother Gary Achey.
Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.
