Walnutport

Roy R. Hughes, 69, of Walnutport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital.    He was the husband of the late Marie (Fisher) Hughes, who passed away in 2016.    Born in Slatington on June 21, 1953, he was the son of the late Russell A. Hughes and Beatrice (Andrews) Horn.    A proud US Army veteran, Roy served in the Vietnam War from 1971-1972.    Roy worked various jobs over the years including construction, carpentry, and for knitting mills.   Most recently, he retired from Walgreens, working in the maintenance department.  He was a life member of the VFW Walnutport, member of the American Legion Post 16, Slatington, and a former member of the Slatington Moose Lodge.   

He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces/caregivers: Michele Horn (Chad), Nicole Nothstein (Chris), Alicia Horn, Aleah Nothstein, and many other nieces & nephews; brothers: Dennis, Terry, & Rodney Hughes; maternal half-sisters: Patricia Schoch, Kim Sandt, Karen Smith.    He was predeceased by brothers Russell Hughes, Charles Scitney, and sister, Pauline Hardy.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 6 to 8PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington.   A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11AM on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Union Cemetery, Slatington.
