Rupert Tobisch, 87, of Walnutport, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023 in his home. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Mandl) Tobisch, who passed away on January 1. Born in Wartberg, Austria, Rupert was the son of the late Friedrich and Theresia (Willenshofer) Tobisch. Rupert spent his whole working career in the textile industry as a knitting machine mechanic, most recently working as a self-employed contractor, traveling all over to repair the knitting machines. Prior to that, he worked for several knitting companies, including Bentley, and HT Knitting. Rupert was a faithful member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Slatington and was a member of the church choir.
Rupert is survived by sons: Fred Tobisch and wife Angela of Pittston, Bryan Tobisch of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Mercedes, Alfonso, James, Maria, Libby, AJ, Lilly; great-grandchildren: Emily, William, Ryleigh, Peyton, Jake, Aubrey; twin sister: Resi Steinacher of Austria. Rupert was pre-deceased by a daughter, Karen Kasper, and a sister, Mitzi Koenig.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, 649 W. Washington Street, Slatington. A visitation period will be held from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at church. Burial of cremains to follow at the parish cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
