Sherwood D. Yenser

Sherwood D. “Popeye” Yenser, 94, formerly of Slatington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Keystone Villa at Ephrata.  He was the husband of the late Loretta N. (Betzenberger) Yenser who passed away in 2020.   Born in Slatington on March 31, 1928, he was the son of the late LeRoy A. and Verna M. (Deibert) Yenser.   He served his country honorably and proudly in the US Navy during WWII.  Popeye worked as a tool repairman for PP&L for 40 years, retiring in 1990.  Following his retirement, he worked as a funeral assistant for the Fox Funeral Home and Harding-Fox Funeral Home.   An active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, he served as past president of church council, member of the choir, king’s men, and superintendent of the Sunday School program.    Popeye was also active in the Slatington community, serving as past master of the Slatington Masonic Lodge #440 F & AM, past president of the Northern Lehigh School Board, member of the Allen O’ Delke Post 16 American Legion, Springside Fire Co., served two terms as scout master for Troop 65, Slatington, and served as superintendent of the Union Cemetery for many years.   
He will be lovingly remembered by a son: Thomas Yenser and wife Kathleen of Wyomissing; granddaughter: Lydia Yenser.   He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Yenser and a brother, Richard F. Yenser.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 40 S. Second Street, Slatington.    Family and friends may pay their respects from 6 to 8PM on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington.   Masonic service will be held at 7:45PM on Friday.   Interment to follow the service at Union Cemetery, Slatington.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
