Shirley L. Mantz, 94, a resident of Fellowship Community, a former lifelong resident of Slatington, passed away, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twsp. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Mantz, Jr., former owner of Charles H. Mantz Fuel Co. Born on December 19, 1924 in Slatington, she was the daughter of the late William and Mayme (Williams) Evans. Shirley was a member of St. John’s UCC, Slatington, where she participated in church consistory. She was a former member of the Slatington Women’s Club, and she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and friends.
She is survived by daughters: Candyce J. Mantz Merkle of Slatington, Linda Jo and husband Gary Hallas of Palmerton; daughter-in-law: Ruthann Mantz of Slatington; Grandchildren: Sara and husband Jamie Abraham, Michael Mantz; Great-Grandson: Jacob Mankos; Sister-in-law: Agnes Evans; Nieces & Nephews: Charles Evans, Tanya Evans, Cathi Evans. She was pre-deceased by a son: Richard C Mantz, brother: Burton Evans, and a nephew: Thomas C. Evans.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Slatington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be made to St. John’s UCC, Unified Budget, 15 S. 2nd St, Slatington PA 18080 or the Slatington Public Library, 650 Main Street, Slatington PA 18080.
