William J. Turk

William J. “Bill” Turk, 91, of Walnutport, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.  He was the husband of Barbara M. (Serfass) Turk, whom he married on September 3, 1971.   Born in Northampton on April 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose (Keschel) Turk.    Bill served his country honorably and proudly as a member of the US Air Force from 1951 -1955 at the rank of SSgt(T).    He worked for Sears & Roebuck for 34 years, as a sales manager for several different departments at the Whitehall location.    In addition, he was instrumental in the start-up of several other Sears store locations.   Bill was a long-time member of the Walnutport Borough Council and was serving as their current president.   He was a member of Christ UCC, Walnutport, where he served on church consistory and as church sexton.   He was also a member of the Diamond Fire Co., Walnutport.  Bill was a huge NY Yankee fan, he loved playing golf, shooting pool, and most of all spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he will be lovingly remembered by children: William M. Turk and wife Christine of Conroe, TX, Lynnette Wayda and partner Randy Roberts of New Tripoli, Brian Turk and wife Terry of Coplay; grandchildren: Lauren and husband Jacob Anderson, Kasey Wayda and partner Wayne Bullimore, Aiden Turk; great-grandchild: Ellie Anderson; brother: Paul Turk and wife Dottie of Northampton.   He was predeceased by siblings, Louis, Stephen and Herman Turk, Mary Simko, Anna Wargo.

A memorial service will be held at 6PM on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Christ UCC, 309 Main Street, Walnutport, PA.   Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 6PM.    In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the church, PO Box P, Walnutport PA 18088.   Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
